I'm a hair stylist who's been working on the Hill for several years, and have amassed a clientele large enough that I no longer need to work in a salon. For the past 6 years I've worked in private studios, and the one I currently rent will no longer be available after April, or possibly sooner.
I prefer to share space with other visual artists/craftspeople such as painters, sculptors, apparel designers, bike mechanics, you name it. I enjoy the symbiotic relationship that forms when my clients (all truly great people!) end up commissioning and/or buying artwork, and when I acquire new clients as a result of the people who associate with my studio-mates.
I currently pay $600, but rent out part of my studio to a painter. We would like to move together, but if not, then I could only pay $400 + utils.
The requirements that I have are following: -- natural light from windows or skylights -- access to running water (I have a portable hair-washing set-up) -- on Capitol Hill
I don't advertise or need any signage.
If this sounds like something you'd be even remotely interested in, please let me know!
Hey Eric (and anyone else looking for a similar space),
Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for but it might work. They have a bike mechanic and some musical instrument makers who I think might contribute to the ambiance you requested.
