I am seeking materials and or funding to help build straw bale studios for the homeless at Nickelsville homeless encampment in Seatle. $5 will buy one bale (we need 75). We hope to install a solar hot water shower unit next and then a 20x40' greenhouse. We have hopes to create sustainable solutions for the homeless not only to help them but also to teach sustainable techniques. Please Help if you can and we hope to post workshops so that people in the community can learn more about green building. This is the time of year when Seattle nights are getting colder and longer. It is dangerous for people to be out on the streets overnight during the winter months. Already this fall, shelters for families and single individuals are reporting that large numbers of people are being turned away due to lack of space. More people are spending the fall/winter nights on Seattle streets or in their cars. This is a problem throughout our city and no neighborhood is immune from the problem nor exempt from being part of the solution....
We are a Seattle based, independent literary magazine called Ruckus Among Us. Our mission is to find artists and creative talent. By this we mean, not those who have the ability to simply produce, but those who have the drive to produce and captivate an audience. We are looking for the ambitious; those who are not afraid to fail because their art is what gives place and purpose in their reality. Artists who are not doing art to become famous, but to satisfy a need to bring forth his or her own reality and amalgamate this with ours.
We are looking for submissions for our second issue in December. The dead line to be considered for this issue is December 22nd, 2011. Send all submissions to: ruckus.among.us.zine@gmail.com To find out more and view our first issue please visit: https://sites.google.com/site/ruckusamonguszine/home

The Nickelsville homeless project is seeking donation to help build Strawbale structures to help the homeless during the winter cold months. Hopefully we will be holding straw bale building workshops so that other might learn how easy and beautiful strawbale structures can be. Backyard cottages, winterized chicken coops or music studio, Strawbale structures are incredibly affordable, simple to build and last a long time!
We are hoping to build several structures. Each small cottages takes 80 bales or $200

Hey, Capitol Hill artists! This is an opportunity for you to get involved and create new amazing work. Help us create the "face of Capitol Hill" using portraiture of any form at the Arabica Lounge on November 12th from 12:30 to 4ish with us. The public will be invited as a place to come, hang out, and get their portrait done for free. The work will then be photographed and they will be allowed to keep the original. The final products will end up on the Seattle Portrait Project blog at seattleportraitproject.tumblr.com. Check out this link and e-mail Alaina at ali@tigunia.com with some information about you and your work for the chance to get involved. Donations will also be accepted at the event towards the Seattle Foundation's arts and culture grantmaking program in an effort to unite the artist community for a greater cause. Tell everyone! Get involved!

Hi,
This is John Crowley from the Department of Communication here at UW. I am writing to announce a research study I'm conducting on emotional communication and stress. If you are GLBQ and have experienced hate speech directed to you from a non-intimate other, I hope you will be interested in participating. If you do not qualify but know someone (from UW or not) who likely does, please forward this email onto him or her. Completing the study will take less than 2 hours total. You will immediately receive $25 when you complete the study. I'm attaching a 1-page description of the study so you can see what it is about and what is involved. You can also link below to an article that was recently published about this study on the Department of Communication at UW website, which includes detail about both the study and the researcher. http://www.com.washington.edu/news/articles/crowley.html Because of the nature of the study, not everyone will be eligible. To find out if you are eligible to participate, please do this brief online...

A recent grad in Industrial Design here looking for artist studio space on the hill. Don't need much space. Just enough room for a desk and a little storage and a little natural light. I enjoy working around other creative minds, but could also be happy in my own space. Currently working on a few lighting design concepts. Have a space, then shoot me a response. Im interested!

Taking a chance to see if anyone out there has a sliver of a space to lease or sub-lease for a small, creative, take-out concept on the Hill. We've inquired on quite a few spaces, but a.) they'd already been leased, or b.) required too many changes to convert into a restaurant. Our frustrations in finding a suitable space have brought us to posting this ad in the off-chance that you are here to find a tenant. Ideally, the space would be in or near Pike/Pine corridor and already have a class I hood in solid, inspection-passing condition. Your new tenants would include a CIA-trained chef and a former ad agency peon with a good idea, integrity, and plenty of motivation to make our idea work.
So, maybe you're just done dealing with dirty hipsters, or you're thinking of retiring, or you have some extra space in your existing restaurant that you're willing to part with? We're open to space-sharing ideas as well. Please send us an e-mail about the space you have in mind and let's talk. Thanks!

Sprout: Sustaining Emerging Artists is a locally sourced, community dinner that funds emerging Seattle artists with a vote.
Participants will pay a sliding-scale entrance fee for which they will receive a home-made dinner and a ballot. Diners will vote on a variety of proposed artist projects. At the end of dinner, the artist whose proposal receives the most votes will be awarded funds collected at the door. The work will then be presented during the next SPROUT. Artistic genres of all kinds are accepted and proposals are encouraged to be sustainable, local and forward-thinking. The deadline for proposals is October 24th, 2010, and the dinner event is November 5th, 6PM at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center. For more information, please visit: www.sproutseattle.org
