Although the Cascade snowpack is roughly normal this year (which is low for a La Nina year in which we expect it to be above normal), the central Sierra Mountains of central CA have been hit very, very hard.

The Stranger, Seattle's Only Newspaper: Slog: Crime: Nick Licata Will Draft Legislation to Make it Easier for Cities to Prosecute Cops
Seattle City Council member Nick Licata has committed to drafting legislation that would make it easier to prosecute cops for killing civilians. Licata says that he wants to remove the stipulation that "malice"—otherwise known as "evil intent"—from the state's current deadly use-of-force laws because, as some people have noted, it's a nearly impossible bar to prove. "You basically have to prove that a police officer was intentionally out to kill someone," says Licata. "I think the general public prima seadiva has added a photo to the pool: March 25 2011.

geekwire.com- Todd Bishop Nintendo has said all along that people will need to see its new Nintendo 3DS to fully appreciate the glasses-free 3D effect. In fact, for some people, the effect can be too powerful, even with a built-in depth slider to control the intensity. The device has already launched overseas, and the United States will get its opportunity to try the Nintendo 3DS starting Sunday, when Redmond-based Nintendo of America launches the new device here. The Stranger, Seattle's Only Newspaper: Slog: Crime: A Reckoning for the Northwest Jesuits and the "Pedophile's Paradise"
Way back in Feb 2009, The Stranger published a story about the how Catholic Church—and, specifically, the Northwest Jesuits—knowingly sent predatory priests up to remote Native Alaskan villages where they could molest and rape with impunity and not get caught. A few horror-refreshing blockquotes from the story are beneath the jump. But the good news today:
The Stranger, Seattle's Only Newspaper: Slog: Crime: Can a Man Call Squatter's Rights on Your Identity After 30 Years of Use?
On Wednesday, 61-year-old Covington resident Tyrone Wudtee was arrested after an east-coast man, known only by the initials M.L.S., filed a criminal complaint alleging that Wudtee had stolen his identity more than 30 years ago and had been collecting benefits in his name ever since. According to a release sent out by the U.S. Attorney's Office for Western Washington, Wudtee encountered the real M.L.S. during a bar fight in Baltimore in 1977—during which Wudtee allegedly took off with M.L.S.'s wallet.

My Arm is one of those performances that defies easy explanation. It's a circuitous web of language and ideas, sudden sharp turns, and screeching halts. There's a take on a high school valedictory speech that's so funny I almost inhaled my cough drop; a pair of former child actors; a Robert Frost poem; and a bizarre boat tour, all interspersed with video and live music performed by Smith on a hammered dulcimer, an autoharp, and a bowed psaltery.

Seattle PostGlobe - Top News: Theater Commentary: Of Mice and Men, The Happy Ones
What is the “American character?” The recently opened production of John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” offers one view that reflects the mood of the 1930s. Yet another show currently running across town suggests an opposite one, only two generations later. The play version of the novel adheres tightly to this literary classic, as it was adapted by Steinbeck himself. The story of two drifters, George (Troy Fischnaller) and his “slow” partner Lennie (Charles Leggett), voices the vanquished hopes and frustrations commonly felt in the Great Depression. When we first meet them, the pair are on the way to new work as hired hands on a Soledad, California ranch, having narrowly escaped a mob upstate that Lennie’s hulking missteps drew. The jobs offer the latest in a string of fresh starts, although George’s efforts to protect his disadvantaged friend will inevitably and tragically fail. It’s George and Lennie’s partnership that makes them different from their fellow ranch hands, a peculiarity that all comment on. “What’s...
