West Precinct Burglary/Theft detectives are investigating a burglary at a First Hill condominium building at the border of the West and East Precincts. The two suspects, a man and a woman, reportedly followed a tenant into the lockout building in order to gain access and remain, looking for suitable target areas and items.
After obtaining surveillance images of the suspects, the case detective disseminated an electronic bulletin with images of the probable offenders. Within 30 minutes of the detective emailing the bulletin internally, East Precinct Bike Team officers identified one of the two persons pictured. The man is a known felon who frequents areas in both the East and West Precincts and has been arrested numerous times in both.
The case detective took this new information and learned that the subject was in King County Jail, having been arrested recently on an outstanding Department of Corrections felony warrant (the subject is on active probation and violated it) near Freeway Park...
On Friday January 28th, East Precinct personnel were notified about a potential stalking incident of a female employee outside of a First Hill medical clinic. A male friend of the employee called the precinct to see what could be done. The female had been reportedly followed and harassed several times by a person whom she perceived as a mentally ill transient male. She was afraid to go to and from the clinic to her bus stop.
East Precinct Community Police Team (CPT) and patrol officers worked together to identify the subject. After believing they knew who the subject might be, they placed his photo into a montage for the victim to review. The victim identified a person known to officers to exhibit the described behavior and who typically loitered in the general area where the victim walked.
Officers contacted a detective assigned to the Crisis Intervention Team in order to alert him that they might have a candidate for Mental Health Court should the subject be located.

In the last few years, Toys for Tots has had an increasingly difficult time meeting the demand for toys, and in many cases, they were simply unable to supply toys to everyone that requested them. Yesler Community Center did not receive any toys the last two years from Toys for Tots.
For many of Yesler’s children, this would have been the only holiday gift they would have received. “This year is the first time that not only did SPD take an active role in planning for this event, this is also the first time that SPD has collected toys to be distributed to the children of the community during the holiday party” , said Judi Carter Senior Property Manager of the low-income family housing. I think it’s just wonderful that SPD has supported us by donating so many toys to the kids here.” She added, “Thankfully, the SPD was able to step up and fill the need this year, and at the last minute too. They rescued our children.”

On November 2nd, at approximately 7:40 PM, Seattle Police responded to Harborview Medical Center to investigate a street robbery. East Precinct officers arrived and contacted the victim. She stated that she had been accosted by a group of three or four black males while she was walking on the stairs leading from Harborview toward Yesler Way. The victim stated that one of the suspects displayed a handgun and then struck her in the head with it, knocking her to the ground. The suspect attempted to remove her backpack, but could not. He did take her cell phone. The suspects then fled on foot southbound. The victim was able to run back to Harborview to seek aid, and someone there called 911. The victim did not suffer any serious injuries. Officers and a K-9 unit searched the area extensively, but were unable to locate the suspects. The suspects are described as black males, ages 18-21 years old. The suspect with the gun was described as 5′ 9″,...
Children who live in Yesler Terrace had an opportunity yesterday to carve pumpkins with police officers at the Yesler Community Center. The ghoulish gourds will be displayed at the Seattle Police East Precinct beginning tonight. Participating kids received a certificate and an early advance on Halloween candy. Best of all, their handiwork will be featured for all to see and admire.
All police precincts will have similar displays through Halloween, so be sure to check them out!
Also, on Halloween night, costumed kids are encouraged to stop by their neighborhood precinct and “trick or treat” for candy between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8: 30 p.m. Have a fun and safe Halloween!
As we reported this summer, the school was closed in 2007, and the District later decided to declare the
Those who were wishing for a reprieve from neighborhood crime simply because summer was ending have yet to see those hopes realized. We continue to have our share of break-ins (of both homes and cars), stolen autos and, of course, the occasional death threat. More on all that in a minute.
First, however, here’s an epilogue to a crime we told you about on our last Police Blotter where the whole thing was captured on the homeowner’s video-surveillance system. In that incident
The PreK-3rd movement is gaining momentum in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere in the country, but the effort needs superintendents to help lead, a new issue brief suggests.
The brief lays out the basic steps superintendents should take to integrate early learning and the first grades of elementary school, including starting slow and simple, showing progress, and supporting professional development.
To show these steps, the paper focuses on three superintendents who already made impressive strides in preK-3rd, including two in Washington state: Bette Hyde, former superintendent of Bremerton, Wash., schools and now head of the state Department of Early Learning; Mark Johnson, superintendent of the Nooksack Valley School District in Washington.
We can technically claim a Presidential visit to Madison Park today, though his time in the neighborhood was rather fleeting. While on his way to a fundraiser at the waterfront home of Real Networks founder Rob Glaser, President Obama’s motorcade used Lake Washington Boulevard as “a long on and off ramp to and from 520.”He thus rather inadvertently entered Madison Park along our western border before heading south on the Boulevard and into Denny-Blaine, where Glaser’s house is located.
